Visits//Bradford Media Museum.

Yesterday, my partner and I went along to the Bradford Media Museum, after a long time of saying "we have to go", and, thankfully, neither of us were disappointed. The museum itself was really interesting, and something completely different to my other exhibition/museum experiences, perhaps due to the contemporary building and nature of the subject matter, with both traditional and modern artefacts, objects and items of interest.
I think the area that I was most interested in within the building's displays was the Kodak room of photographic contents- particularly enjoying the packaging and traditional, hand rendered, typographic design items that really took my interest from a Graphic Design perspective, and have inspired me once more to experiment with type and explore this area of design to a further extent both throughout the summer and through my next academic year within my personal and professional design practice.

PPD//Leeds College of Art Graduate Show 2011.

Yesterday afternoon I formally visited the Leeds College of Art end of year Graudate show, after working the opening night on Friday, and only catching a few glimpses of the show (when escaping from handing out drinks tokens for a minute or two!), of which I was, of course, very impressed with.

As per usual, I managed a good pillage of business cards (shown above and below) of some of my favourite designers work, and branding itself that I was really impressed with (having decided that this is a route that I would more firmly like to pursue than any previous ideas for my future design practice).

The show, as expected, on the whole, was great, and I naturally had a strong bias towards the Graphic Design department, which, as always, looked clear, smart, considered, and really presentable. I thought, again, like last year, the surface pattern design show area was also great, and I really admired the vast array of illustrative skills and methods in the graduate designers.

Another great year- I can't believe that my work will be up there within a year's time! Very scary stuff.

Finally managed to see the Papergirl Exhibition for this year that my work was submitted to, with thanks to organiser, Laura Jordan, uploading images onto the Papergirl Leeds Facebook page, after I unfortunately wasn't able to visit the exhibition whilst it was on.

For the show I submitted my A3 'Birds of a feather...' feather-rendered type poster which had received good feedback from the Image session that the typeface was originally created for.

Again, like submitting my work last year, it felt really good to give away a print for free, and hopefully it will have gone to a good home (to a member of the Leeds general public, after prints are distributed on a bike ride around the city), and I look forward to hopefully submitting my work for many more years to come yet!

Personal Development//Cafe 164 Exhibition//Opening Night.

Photographs from my work up at the Split/Cafe 164 opening night this evening. I was really lucky to have friends Polly, Fran, Beth and Baljeet go down with me to take a good look at the work on show, as well as meeting our tutor, Jane, at the event too, so it was great to see some friendly faces.

Really enjoyed seeing the work hung up (thanks Oli!) and chatting to some of the designers there, as well as Oli himself and finding out a little bit more about the industry and his design studio, Split. He was also kind enough to give me some really great feedback and encouragement about my work, and I've felt feeling really inspired. Really looking forward to my PPD presentation now and talking about my future plans.

PPD//Professional Development//Yorkshire Graphic Designers Exhibition.

Really excited to have been sent through the flyer to promote the Cafe 164/Split Yorkshire Graphic Designers Exhibition that my work will be a part of, from 14th May- 23rd June 2012.

Designed by Oli Bentley at Split, I really love the playfulness of incorporating the distinct "tools of the trade" and the iconic Yorkshire Rose design.

Really looking forward to the exhibition, got a lot going on at the moment, so this'll be a great little lift!

Personal Development//Yorkshire Graphic Design Exhibition.

Really pleased to ~announce~ that my work has been chosen as one of the lucky eight designer's (portfolios) to be shown at the Yorkshire Graphic Design Exhibition at Cafe 164 and the Leeds Gallery from 14th May-23rd June, as prompted to enter by a designer I met at Reetsweet, Oli Bentley, who runs Leeds-based Graphic Design studio 'Split'.

Really happy to have one, and it will be the first time since college that my work has been exhibited (with the exception of Papergirl Leeds last year) to the public (but this time on a much larger scale with a much wider audience/viewing potential), and I'm looking forward to seeing a few of my design pieces in a public space within the city.
